| Roan MP, Chishimba Kambwili at the University Teaching Hospital |
A medical doctor from
the ministry of health today presented to court Roan Member of Parliament
Chishimba Kambwili’s passport one of the bail conditions which the Roan MP
failed to meet for him to be released yesterday.
Yesterday, Mr. Kambwili
spend almost the whole day at the Lusaka Magistrates court complex trying to
process his bail, but by 17:00 hours he had failed to meet one of the bail
conditions,as his passport was believed to be in the custody of the Immigration
Department who had grabbed it upon his arrival from South Africa where he had
gone for medical checkups.
Mr. Kambwili's lawyers
expressed shock today how the passport moved from the immigration department to
the ministry of health , when it was confiscated from the NDC consultant at the
airport in Ndola upon his arrival from South Africa.
One of his lawyers Gilbert
Phiri tells Mutola Nkani that the doctor brought Mr. Kambwili's passport after Magistrate
Mwaka Mikalile Subpoenaed the deputy director general of the Immigration
Department to explain why the department did not submit Mr Kambwili’s passport .
And NDC Secretary
General Mwenya Musenge has described Mr. Kambwili's release as partial relief.
He says the NDC has
lost confidence in the state over how it has handled Mr. Kambwili's matter.
Mr. Kambwili was who
supposed to be remanded at the Lusaka Central Correctional facilities after
failing to meeting the bail conditions , could however not spend the night in
confinement as he was still unwell and instead spent the night in the
university teaching hospital under guard by two officers from the Lusaka
central correctional facility.
