44 years old man repeatedly defiles stepdaughter

Police in Kayama have arrested a 44 years old male adult of Lusaka’s John Leing Compound for allegedly defiling his 14 years old step daughter.

Police spokesperson Ester Katongo says the suspect is reported to have had defiled the victim on several occasions between 1st January, 2016 and 17th August, 2018.

The suspect is detained in police custody and will appear in court soon.

In a related development, Police in Kanyama received a report of incest in which a male adult identified as Fidelis Jipupa is alleged to have had carnal knowledge of his biological daughter who is a minor.

Ms. Katongo says this  is said to have happened on 21st August 2018 at about 05 00 hours in Makeni Villa.

The suspect is currently on the run and a manhunt has been launched. A docket of incest has been opened.

Police in Western Province today exhumed the body of a female Police Officer identified as Caroline Chembwe (29) who was initially reported missing and later discovered dead and buried in a shallow grave.

Police Spokesperson Ester Katongo says the body has since been buried after postmortem was conducted on site as it was found in a decomposed state.

She says further investigations  reveal that one of the suspects identified as Edward Mwanza aged 23 was actually not an intimate friend to the victim as he initially claimed but that the two came to know each other at a time when the victim advertised to sell her motor vehicle to which the suspect had expressed interest.

She says the  victim is reported to have been picked from Katima Mulilo Police Post  on 08th August, 2018 by the suspect Edward Mwanza who was in possession of the said motor vehicle at the time, on pretext that he pays a down payment towards the purchase of the motor vehicle.

She says when they reached the suspects home, the victim received a phone call from another interested buyer who offered to get the vehicle at a better price which made the victim change her mind and this angered Edward Mwanza who picked a knife and stabbed the victim.

She adds that he is later alleged to have locked the victim in the house and went to stay with his friends until at the time when he decided to dispose off the body with the help his co-accused Dan Njimbu after stacking it in a sack.

Ms. Katongo has since stated that the two have since been jointly charged for Murder which is contrary 200 while Edward Mwanza has also been charged with Aggravated Robbery contrary to section 294 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

She adds that the accused persons are detained in police custody and will appear in court soon.

Siwale's bail conditions revised

New Labour party president Fresher Siwale who has been in incarceration for about 30-days after failing to meet his bail conditions in the matter in which he is charged with defamation of the President has been granted a fresh K25, 000 bail in his own recognizance with two working sureties in the like sum from reputable working institutions.

This was after his lawyer Keith Mweemba, applied for mild bail conditions informing the court that his client has remained incarcerated after failing to meet the previous bail conditions.

Previously, the court granted Mr Siwale a K10,000 bail in his own recognizance with two working sureties from government institutions at managerial level or directorship.

But when the matter came up before Magistrate Alice Walusiku for commencement of trial, his lawyer indicated that it has been difficult for their client to meet bail conditions because the matter has political connotations and no civil servant has been willing to sign bail on his behalf.

Mr. Mweemba asked the court to grant the accused fresh bail conditions as he was a political figure, a leader of a political party and was willing to attend court when required.

Magistrate Walusiku granted Siwale a fresh but reminded him that he would remain incarcerated until he met the bail conditions.

Meanwhile, during trial in the matter, Muvi television journalist Mabvuto Phiri told the court that he produced the 1hour 30 minutes assignment program where Mr Siwale is alleged to have referred to President Lungu as an identity thief, further stating that he is not the actual Edgar Chagwa Lungu but Jonathan Mutawale.

The state presented before the court a DVD of the said program which was viewed in court.

But Mr Siwale’s lawyer Gilbert Phiri objected to the presentation of the DVD as evidence arguing that its contents could have been altered to suit the state.

Magistrate Walusiku has since adjourned the matter to 6th and 20th June,2018 for mention and 5th July for continued trial.

UPND hates me, Death Sentenced Mukata writes

I Am Hated By UPND - Mukata

Pens a touching endorsement of Maria Langa

"THE people of Zambia, particularly those from Chilanga, I wish to greet you and hoping that you're all fine. For me, life is okay although could be better but despite being confined there is life here too.

I write this letter in connection to the recent development surrounding the election of someone who will replace me in Chilanga. This constituency shall forever occupy a special place in my heart, as such I feel duty bound to add a voice.

In this respect, let me begin by giving what my agenda was for Chilanga with a view of offering my people and Zambians first hand information of what , if I had my way, I would love the winner of the election to carry on.

From it's initial economic status, Chilanga has always remained an economic hub which houses Lafarge Cement, Mount Makulu Research Station and Head Quarters of the Zambia Agricultural Research Institute (ZARI),Zambia Department of Fisheries, KnowledgeBeat as well as Sundy's Creation - these all mark  this Constituency as a unique one among all. My agenda was to oversee a robust revamp of other ventures such as Munda Wanga and Eureka Gaming Park as well as offer an entrepreneurial opportunity to youths and women in the quarry mining business in the area. Chilanga seats on a rock hill and this is an opportunity we wanted to clutch and help our community.

However, we couldn't do these things without a heart for our people. This is to say, above everything else, a presentative of such an area must be an individual who should be above politics in the representation in Parliament.

I have bee a subject of ridicule before for standing up against partisanship in my duties as representative of Chilanga when I decided to stay put when the President Edgar Chagwa Lungu gave his State of Nation Address (SONA). My party discredited me and labeled me a saleout but the fundamental principle of any MP is to represent people who voted for him or her. We may differ on party lines but what we seek to do is to improve affairs of Zambia. I personally believe my decision to defy the directive given by the leadership of my party UPND was out of the heart I have for the people.

You may wish to know that this verdict set me apart with the leadership and membership of my party which persistently remained absent during my trial over the case I stood charged and convicted for.

My party alleged I was a surrogate of the PF but this accusation could not be justified because if the governing party was in any way benefiting from my representation, I would not be sentenced like how it is now. Of course, the tenets of democracy demands coexistence among rivals.

Last week, I was visited by a good friend of mine Honourable Miles Sampa. He came to tell me that his party had adopted Maria Langa. I have also learnt that my party UPND has adopted Charmaine Musonda whose identity I need not discuss. I want to put it on record that, if I had my way, I would endorse the PF candidate for reasons that the people of Chilanga deserve a presentative who has a heart for people, who will resist manipulation on party lines.

I thank the prison authorities for allowing me to draft this note. Above all, pray for me and my family as well as everyone in prison."

Njoya Tembo's Wife walks to freedom

THE Lusaka High Court has overturned the conviction of Zambia Association of Musicians Njoya Tembo's wife, Brenda who was sentenced to Five years imprisonment for assaulting her 14 year old niece with a cooking stick.

Brenda was accused beating her nice with a cooking stick after she allegedly used a pressing iron she was not allowed to use.

But having being dissatisfied with the conviction, she appealed the sentence to the High Court.

Judge of the High Court Mwila Chitabo upheld and quashed the sentence passed by Magistrate Greenwell Malumani on grounds that there was no legal basis on which such conviction was passed.

“There was reasonable doubt raised and there was no legal basis for conviction. I agree with the appellant that there was no evidence that the injuries were caused by the cooking stick.

“I therefore, uphold and quash conviction and set you free, you can go!” judge Chitabo said.

In his judgement, judge Chitabo found that there was dereliction of duty on the part of the prosecution when they failed to present the cooking stick as the instrument used to injure the child.

He held that the prosecution should have called Njoya T to give his evidence which should have collaborated with the other state witnesses on how the incident happened.

“The state should have called the appellants husband because he intervened. There was dereliction of duty on the part of the state and in my view, the evidence of the appellant’s husband would have would have collaborated on how the incident happened,” Judge Chitabo said.

Judge Chitabo discredited all the five witnesses that testified as there evidence was not collaborated.

He said there were two inferenced to be drawn and in the circumstance the prosecution did not prove its case.

Macky 2 slams MPs for denting President Lungu’s Image-calls them useless

Zambian Musician Mulaza Kaira popularly known as Macky II says some MPs are denting President Edgar Lungu’s reputation.

Macky II has released a song, titled Signal a couple of days after opposition leader in South Africa Julias gave a speech during funeral of the country’s former first lady Winnie Mandela.

In his speech, Malema slammed mourners, who disliked Ms. Mandela and opposed her views, further asking for ‘Signal’ from her  on how to deal with people he referred to as ‘betrayers’.

It is from the speech that the self proclaimed dopest and freshest name in the Zambian Hip-hop music industry Macky II derives the title for his news single ‘Signal.’

In his song Macky II has described MPs as useless for abandoning their respective constituencies’ after being voted for.

“Imwe ma useless MP, Nibwelo miona apa nili pa KMB, after tavota mwaleka kuoneka ka? Olo tabunkana munayambo meka ka? (You useless, MPs am coming to see you right now am at KMB bus station in Kitwe. After voting for you, you disappeared right? Even when we meet you, you started skitting right?) He raps in his first verse of the song.

The rapper continues to say, things are getting worse on a daily basis, adding that it’s really sad that the rich are getting richer where he comes from while the poor are getting poorer.
Macky II is of the view that Zambia now belongs to the elite.

“We see you, vintu vinkalilako bad, sininganame big man situation ili bad. But the rich get richer kuno fwebo twikala, Zambia teyabalanda yabakankala(we see you, things are getting worse and I can’t lie to you the situation is really bad ) He raps on.
