The Lusaka high court has sentenced Chilanga Member of parliament Keith
Mukata who once served as deputy justice minister to death by hanging.
The court has established that
Mr. Mukata on 6th May 2017 did murder his own security guard at his
law firm.
When the matter came up, Lusaka high court Judge Susan Wanjalani said
the court had overwhelming evidence that Mr. Mukata killed the security guard.
And Judge Wanjalani has since acquitted
Charmaine Musonda, Who was Mr. Mukata's co-accused for lack of
sufficient evidence.
And in Mitigation, Mr. Mukata through his lawyers pleaded for leniency considering the fact
that he was a first offender and a
family man.
He also indicated that
he takes care of orphans under
orphanages that he owns .
Mr. Mukata also pleaded
for leniency on condition that he is a member of parliament for Chilanga
constituency, and had a good relationship with the deceased.
But Judge Wanjalani
said despite what had been mentioned under mitigation , her hands were tied , as she was following
what is laid down in the Zambian laws.
