YALI HAILS GOVT'S POSITION ON ICC

YALI Governance Advisor, Isaac Mwanza

The young African Leaders Initiative-YALI says government's decision to remain member of the international criminal court (ICC) is a clear indication that it listens to its people.

YALI governance advisor Isaac Mwanza says that, governments decision not to pull out of the ICC is a clear indication that President Edgar Lungu, through the ministry of Justice respects the will of the people.

Government has had public consultations to ascertain whether it should pull out or remain member of the ICC.

After consultations from the public, Justice Minister Given Lubinda announced that the public resolved that the country remains member of the ICC.

Meanwhile  Mr. Mwanza has said that the listening part should not just end on the ICC alone but also on the constitution amendment.

He says government should also ensure that there is extensive public engagement and consultations on the matter of constitution amendment.

He says government should ensure that it listens from all stakeholders such as the youth and take note of their submissions.

Mr. Mwanza emphasizes that the  government has indicated that it is not oppressive, but listens to divergent  views by its people, a move which ought to be commended by all well meaning Zambians.
