The
Non-Governmental Organization Coordinating Council- NGOCC is displeased that
Parliament unanimously approved the proclamation of Invoking Article 31 of the
constitution by President Edgar Lungu, without the opposition United Party For
National Development (UPND) members of parliament.
NGOCC
Chairperson Sarah Longwe has described the approval of the Article as
unfortunate adding that parliament should have waited for the return of the
suspended UPND members of parliament who represent almost half of the Zambians.
She
says the move is a grave decision, regrettable and will affect everyone because it
signifies that half of the Zambian people have not been represented in
parliament on the matter.
And
Ms. Longwe also tells Alf News Blog that the
move has generally been triggered by the amended new constitution, further alleging that it has so many anomalies
and inconsistencies which has not helped the Zambian people.
She
however states that citizens and the state security should be alert and avert
violence practices, to avoid the state of emergency which may also be invoked
by the republican president if the nations security situation is not contained.
She
says in an even of state of emergency it is the women and children who suffer
most, hence the need for Zambians to embrace the peace it has enjoyed for a
long time.
Meanwhile
the Commuters Rights Association of Zambia has called on the Zambia Police
command to tame its officers in operations of maintaining law and order.
Association
President Arron Kamuti has stated that the police command should assure the nation
that the it will not exhibit any form of intimidation as the constitution has
given it more teeth.
He
says that police should ensure that the said measures to advance security in
the country are only aimed at law breakers and not innocent citizens.
He
adds that the police should be also be intelligent enough to differentiate
would-be offenders and innocent Zambians in their operations.
