"FEAR NOT, AM AFTER TERRORISTS-PRESIDENT LUNGU

President Edgar Lungu

PRESIDENT Edgar Chagwa Lungu has assured the nation that the decision to invoke article 31 will not affect innocent civilians but will assist him in smoking out the 'terrorists' who have been trying to intimidate him and make the country appear ungovernable.

Responding to questions from journalists who sought clarity on what to expect after the proclamation as many theories had been flying around with many instilling fear in the citizens, President Lungu assured thenation that all business would go on as usual but noted that criminals, transgressors will not invade him.

He said he had no intention to abuse the power granted to him by the constitution as he does not want to disrupt ordinary life.

"I will only go for those posing danger to public order and security...people are free to move... freedom of the media will continue.... No curfew and no blanket regulations we will be dealing with matters case by case," President Lungu said.

"Do not panic, fear nothing...  your liberties are important and do not worry you are in safe hands."

But President Lungu revealed that he is aware of a crusade comprised of African tycoons trying to surp powers from him.

He revealed that this cartel has heavily invested in advocacy trying to paint him as a bad leader, 'a dictator' however, he asked every Zambian and the international community to take an introspection and really check if indeed Zambia was in dictatorship.

He reflected by noting that if indeed he was a dictator some of the actions and words spoken by opposition leaders would have seen a descendant of state machinery on them.

He said he is aware that a handful local terrorists are trying to create an impression that there is tension in the country so that he may invite them to the negotiating table in bid for a government of national unity.

" There is no tension in the country, they are acts of terrorism building to intimidate me... It is a systematic approach by the opposition to ignite talks to drive us to a negotiating table... they are trying to compel us to form a government of national unity," President Lungu said noting that they will never be a GNU as he had won the election fairly.

And President Lungu says the burning of City Market is an act of sabotage.

The head of state said investigations and previous actions have led to him and cabinet to conclude that the action was sabotage meant to cripple the nation's economy.

President Lungu completely ruled out possibilities of the actions being accidental but assured that with him invoking article 31 he would smoke out and catch the perpetrators as well as put an end to the suffering of the innocent citizens who had become victims of these political ploys.

He said those saying he had acted in a haste should realise that every politician has his own way of doing things as politics is an art and not a science.

President Lungu noted that for him he would rather fix the small problem before it culminates; "A stitch in time saves nine."
